Whose liability is it anyway?

It’s 2023 and cyberattacks on companies of ALL sizes are on the rise – from phishing scams to ransomware breaches. In response to this, companies are increasing the time, care, and money that goes into cybersecurity protections for online devices and systems. The average cost of a data breach is currently a whopping $4.35 MILLION dollars, and there’s no question of who is liable for that cost in the event of a breach.

However, far fewer companies are aware of the risks and costs associated with a POST-life data breach (one that occurs after equipment has been retired or decommissioned). One might even ask, in the case of a post-life data breach, whose liability is it anyway?

Keep reading for the answer to that question, some sobering statistics on the severity of post-life breaches, and some solutions for companies looking to increase data security!
