Data at rest, Data at risk!

Every company, regardless of size or industry, handles sensitive data. This can take the form of external information such as client-identifying data, medical records, and bank statements, or internal information such as employee emails, company passwords, and HR records. Most companies work with cybersecurity experts to protect that data while it is active and online, but what happens to data that has been retired or relegated to storage devices?

It is critical to dispose of all retired sensitive information (known as “data at rest”) properly and permanently, so companies can provide evidence that they have taken the necessary precautions in the event of an audit. Otherwise, data at rest can quickly become data at risk! Keep reading to learn more about data at rest, what the risks are, and how you can protect yourself with Pupfish!
